CRAOTIAN CITIZENS HAVE SHOWN RESPONSIBILITY WITH THEIR VOTER TURNOUT IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS AND WE NOW ALSO EXPECT RESPONSIBLITY FROM THE ELECTION WINNER
Transparency International Croatia would like to thank all voters who performed their civic responsibility in voting in the Presidential elections, the Presidential candidates who competed and the Election winner. We now expect responsibility from the victor.
'The Presidential elections are over. Croatian citizens showed with their voter turnout at the elections that they have civic responsibility and that they know the power of every single vote, irrespective of whom they voted for. The vanquished in the election must accept the will of the people who voted, and respect the democratic process and the rules of competition that were known in advance.
The burden of political responsibility is now on the election winner. Her obligation is to be the President of all citizens, without discrimination, especially taking into account that many citizens did not turn out to vote and that a large number of voters did not give her their vote.
In such a situation, we rightly expect strong moral qualities and integrity, individual personality, skills and knowledge of good governance. We expect that the powers enumerated in the Constitution and the separation of powers, be respected as the foundation of stability of our democratic order.
We expect a Statesperson who will encourage positive social values, goodness, trust and in particular, honesty. We hope that fighting corruption through prevention will be a priority in her everyday work in order to avoid creating a public impression that it is being done selectively in order to discredit political opponents. All Croatian citizens deserve a better, more just and honest life, which we can only achieve if we believe that we can change as a society.' said Davorka Budimir, President of TI Croatia.
