Corruption Perceptions Index 2014

More than 150 representatives of the Croatian authorities, civil society as well as diplomatic representatives in Croatia attended TI-Croatia's presentation of Transparency International's 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index in the crowded hall of the Westin Hotel.

Croatia placed 61st in the Index (dropping four places compared to last year) out of a total of 175 countries.

According to the CPI, the most influential indicator of corruption in the world, the least corrupt countries in 2014 are Denmark with 92 points and New Zealand with 91 points. The most corrupt are Somalia and North Korea with only 8 points.

"The 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that advances in the fight against corruption can not yet be seen, which means that the fight against corruption is not strong enough, although we are seeing some efforts in this direction. This indicator should be a warning to every individual, especially those who exercise power, because we were promised a society without corruption," said Davorka Budimir, president of Transparency International Croatia.

According to the CPI, the largest shift in this region comes from Albania, which has moved up 2 points. Slovenia and Macedonia both advanced by 1 point. On the other hand, a growth in corruption was recorded in Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Regional countries have ranked as follows: 39th place for Slovenia (58 points), 61st for Croatia (48 points), 64th for Macedonia (45 points) 76th place for Montenegro (42 points), 78th place for Serbia (41 points), 80th place for Bosnia and Herzegovina (39 points), and a tie for 110th place for Kosovo (33 points) and Albania (33 points).
